Youth Programs (Episcopal Youth Community)

EYC meets 5:30-7:30 on most Sunday evenings during the school year (September-May) with occasional breaks for holidays and special parish events. EYC meetings and activities offer rich opportunities: service projects (benefitting both the parish and the community), spiritual development, educational enrichment, recreational outings and activities, events, meals, and fun! Our Sunday evening gatherings aim to cultivate a desire to grow in knowledge and love of God and in friendship with one another.
We participate in many ministries and find creative ways to engage the parish and the community around Good Shepherd, including events like the annual Hot Chocolate Sale and the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. Check the Good Shepherd calendar and e-newsletter each week for the most up-to-date announcements on youth activities.

Worship
We encourage all of our youth to be active participants in parish worship. Opportunities include singing in the choir, assisting with Children's Chapel, serving as an acolyte, kite flier, lector, intercessor or usher.
CGS Acolyte Ministry
Acolytes serve each Sunday assisting clergy during worship. Students in grades 6-12 are eligible to serve after training, rotating between Sunday morning services and special services such as Christmas, Holy Week, etc. Roles include crucifers, torch bearers, Gospel bearers and kites along with the lighting of candles and assisting with the offering and Eucharist preparation. New acolyte registration takes place each fall, but new students can join at any time with proper training. To sign up or submit questions to acolyte leader David Stroud, please CLICK HERE.

Retreats and mission opportunities
We regularly go on retreats and participate in local and national mission/service projects. We also serve with Shepherd's Table Soup Kitchen and are always open to learning about other local ministries and opportunities for us to serve.

Confirmation
In confirmation, members of CGS make a "mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism and ... receive the laying on of hands by the bishop" (BCP 412). The Church of the Good Shepherd offers confirmation classes for youth who seek to receive the sacrament of confirmation.
