Great Souls: Conversations with Them and Us -- After the 10:30AM Eucharist
Gathering weekly, Feb. 14-Feb 28 in Shepherd's Hall Porch
This Week: Marcus Borg: The Faithful Skeptic
Join us on the porch of Shepherd's Hall for some conversations with each other, and some of the most fascinating people who have ever lived, following the 10:30 Holy Eucharist. This is an opportunity to go deeper and connect with each other in exploring what Christian faith and belief really is, by listening to and discussing passages from the writings of some of the "Great Souls" of 20th and 21st century Christianity. Come with your questions and doubts. Come with an open heart and mind. Don't expect pat answers, but, just maybe, find more interesting questions to wrestle with, and experience a deeper level of community with each other. Selections from Anglicans and Episcopalians, and also those from other Christian traditions will be read and discussed. Bill Bennett, Miriam Saxon, and others will present and facilitate our gatherings.
- February 14 - Marcus Borg: The Faithful Skeptic
- February 21 - Dietrich Bonhoeffer: The Beyond in the Midst of Life
- February 28 - John XXIII: Pacem in Terris (Peace on Earth)

Evensong at Good Shepherd in February
You are invited to come participate in our next Evensong on Sunday, February 14. The beauty of this service -- which begins with a dimmed, quiet, and reflective sanctuary that gradually becomes infused with the soft light of candle after candle flaring to life -- makes for a very special worship experience as we begin the new year. This service is also a wonderful opportunity to get settled and centered as you get ready for another week--it is what is often spoken of as "contemplative" experience of worship. Dress is casual. Then...join us for a wine and cheese reception in the Duncan-Giersch Center following the service.
Evensong--5:00PM, 2nd & 4th Sundays each month
February 14 & 28, 2010

A Stop Hunger Now Packaging Event
Saturday, March 6, 2010 -- 8:30am-6:00pm
Saint Saviour's Center, 618 Tucker St., downtown Raleigh
We've all seen the reports and video showing the massive number of Haitians displaced from their homes after the January 12th earthquake that devastated so much of that small country. A local non-profit group, Stop Hunger Now, dedicated to the worldwide eradication of hunger, has stepped up its efforts in Haiti and is currently sending meals, water, and medication to their partners there. At this time, 50,000 Haitians are receiving food and help on a daily basis at distribution points outside of Port-au-Prince.

Area churches are joining forces for a Meal Packing Event on Saturday, March 6, at Saint Savior's Center at 618 Tucker Street in downtown Raleigh. Our goal is to package 80,000 meals between 8:30am and 6:00pm! Now catch your breath...we're just asking for your help for one of four 2-hour shifts that day. The time will fly by, and the work is fast paced, exciting and family friendly. Anyone 5 years old or older is welcome to participate! We're looking lots of volunteers from Good Shepherd, so please sign up with your whole family!
