Parish Picnic In Honor of Mike Beard - August 7th

Please join us for this annual event hosted on Saturday, August 7th starting at 5:00 p.m. at Tara Farms in Raleigh. You can look forward to BBQ, hamburgers, hotdogs, and all the fixin's. Come enjoy a Saturday afternoon at the farm with the whole family! The event is FREE and parish contributions are welcome at the door. Please RSVP to let us know you plan to attend. There will be a lottery drawing for everyone who RSVPs. Feel free to bring your family's secret Chicken Salad or your best dessert to be entered into the contest! Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper - Members of EYC, our youth group, serve pancakes as a fundraiser at this very popular event.
Wednesday Night Lenten Programs - The Church of the Good Shepherd's traditional Wednesday Evening Programs takes place each Wednesday evening in Shepherd's Hall during Lent. Programs have ranged from discussion of moral implications of major events to concerts. Pig Pickin' - The Mike Beard Memorial Pig Pickin' is an annual parish-wide event hosted in Raleigh. You can look forward to all the usuals: a whole hog, pork shoulders, beans, hush puppies, slaw, and all the rest of the fixin's. Come enjoy a Saturday afternoon at the farm with the whole family. Sunday School Kickoff Event - The Sunday School Kickoff event takes place in September immediately after the worship service. It is always a great afternoon of fellowship as members share a meal of hot dogs and hamburgers and plenty of potluck side dishes. We even have a bouncy house INSIDE the Parish Life Center! Oyster & Shrimp Roast - The Jim Propst Memorial Oyster & Shrimp Roast takes place in November. For those who don't enjoy seafood, there is plenty of chili to go around. Christmas Pageant and All-Parish Christmas Party - Our children present a Christmas Pageant each December to the delight of the parish. With a range in ages from 3-year olds as sheep all the way up to high school age narrators, the young people give a unique perspective on the wonders of the birth of Jesus. A potluck dinner filled with food and Christmas carols follows the performance. SUPPER CLUBS
Good Shepherd has a strong tradition of supper clubs that typically meet monthly in members' homes. These informal gatherings consist of a potluck meal and lots of fellowship. While some of the groups may be targeted to different age ranges, all are welcome at any event. We have many parishioners who enjoying 'roaming' among the different groups to get a full experience of the diversity of our parish. Amazing Grace - Typically meets monthly in individual's homes for a covered dish supper. The group is composed of singles and couples. Ages range from the 30's to 70's.
