Farewell Migrant Ministry Gathering in Raleigh

CHANGE OF PLANS: The farmworkers at our adopted camp were sent back to Mexico ahead of schedule. In lieu of the farewell brunch, there will be a coffee hour in Shepherd's Hall between the 9:00am and 11:15am services. This will be an informal time for the congregations of both services to visit with each other over coffee and muffins while the children attend their regularly scheduled classes. The following Adult Formation Classes will also meet: The Battle Bible Class, the Newcomers' Class and the "Your Money and Your Life" Class.

Everyone Is Invited!! Oct. 26th!!

Please mark your calendar and plan to join us at the church for our last event of the growing season with the farmworkers from our adopted migrant camp.

This serves as our Adult Christian Formation program for the day.

Who? Our friends from Mexico and ALL members of Good Shepherd.

Where? The sanctuary of The Church of the Good Shepherd and Shepherd's Hall.

When? Sunday, October 26, at the 9:00am service followed by a covered dish brunch in Shepherd's Hall

What? A unique opportunity for our loving family to welcome the migrant farmworkers into our spiritual home! We will begin the day by giving the men a tour of the church. They will join us at the 9:00am worship service which will have lectionaries read in both English and Spanish. Immediately following the service, we will gather in Shepherd's Hall for a covered dish meal to which EVERY member of Good Shepherd is most cordially invited. This is the perfect time for those who have been interested in and who have supported the migrant ministry with prayers, donations and encouragement to join the ministry "regulars" in bidding the farmworkers farewell as they prepare to return to their families in Mexico. Sue Carr is our coordinator for the brunch. If you can help with the brunch or need ideas of dishes to bring, please contact Sue at or 801-8349.

After the brunch, we will take the men shopping for the afternoon.

These men, who labor in the fields of North Carolina and live long months in isolation, away from the families they struggle to support, have cherished our visits and our friendship. Each time we go the migrant camp, they welcome us as family. We are their family in Christ. Please help us welcome them and witness for yourselves the presence of the Holy Spirit that blesses each of our migrant ministry events!

Please contact migrant ministry coordinator Margaret Park, or 787-5557, if you have questions or suggestions, if you can help with our October 26 event, or if you would like to offer your time and talents to the migrant ministry. Monetary donations are always welcome, and checks should be clearly marked for MIGRANT OUTREACH MINISTRY.
