The CGS Shred-It Event

Saturday, September 27
10am-noon, in the parking lot

Approximately 10 million Americans are victims of identity theft each year. Yes, that’s right—10 million! You cannot entirely control whether or not you will become a victim, but there are certain things you can do to minimize the risks. Some things that should be shredded are the following:

  • Documents that include Social Security Numbers, birth dates, Personal Identification Numbers (PIN), account numbers or passwords
  • Banking and other financial information; save receipts until the transaction has been verified on your statement
  • Any document that has your signature
  • Pre-approved credit card or insurance applications
  • Medical or dental bills
  • Canceled checks with no significance for tax or other purposes can be destroyed after one year. If it supports a tax return, keep the canceled check for 7 years
  • Monthly bills after a year
  • Paycheck stubs can be shredded yearly after the income has been verified with a W-2 or other tax form

Gather all those old papers that you don’t need anymore and join us for the Shred-It Event. Please enter the parking lot from Morgan Street. There will be people to help you unload all those boxes of paper. Don’t worry about paper clips, staples, binder clips, spiral notebooks, or hanging folders, as they can all be put through the shredder. You can watch the shredding process through a monitor on the side of the truck. The company providing this service is Cintas Document Management, and their operators are bonded and insured. We will also receive a Certificate of Destruction before the operator leaves the event. At our 2007 event, 2400 pounds of paper
were shredded. Donations will be accepted, and all monies over and above the cost of the event will be donated to The Center Campaign. If you have concerns or questions, please call Fyl Thompson at 831-2012 or e-mail .
