Music Program
The music program at Good Shepherd is an important element of the
Church's services. Besides glorifying the weekly services for the
congregation, the music program at Good Shepherd allows adults and children
to learn and express their musical talents through the various choirs.
Our choirs also regularly present at events outside Good Shepherd.
Chancel Choir leads our
11:15 worship services.
The Chancel Choir explores a wide variety of sacred choral literature
ranging from contemporary classics to traditional classics. This is a SATB Choir, although SAB literature and small ensemble works are
included. Additionally, this choir enjoys a number of instrumentalists
added to the choral ensemble.
Chamber Choir leads our
9:00 worship services. The
Chamber Choir explores contemporary and traditional literature mostly in SAB arrangements. This is a diverse choir that sings a variety of
literature including simple folk tunes, hymn arrangements, as well as
SAB versions of traditional and classical literature. This choir also
employs the use of various instrumentalists as a part of their
accompaniment.
Hand bell Choir is a choir
ranging from high school students to.... the more mature! Our hand bell
choir enjoys ringing three octaves of Schulmerich Hand bells. This choir participates in all of our
worship services on various occasions, but especially on high holy day
services. Participation in this group does require basic music reading
skills.
Shepherd Singers (Youth
Choir) is for 7th - 12th graders. This choir enjoys singing unison, 2
and 3 part literature with a contemporary flavor. This choir
occasionally joins the Chamber Choir for special anthems.
Angel Choir (Junior Choir)
is for 3rd - 6th graders. This choir continues to
explore the fundamentals of music and singing. Annually, this choir
enjoys presenting a sacred musical with the Junior Choir of Sacred Heart
Cathedral.
St. Nicholas Choir (Primary
Choir) is a popular children's choir that meets on Sunday mornings as
part of the Christian Education hour. These children explore very basic
musical concepts as they begin to discover their singing voices. This
choir will present various songs throughout the year in the 9:00 a.m.
service. It is this musical experience that prepares the child for
participation in the Junior Choir.
Our congregational singing and choral
anthems are accompanied by a 1982 Casavant Freres organ of 18 ranks. The
organ is built in the French classic style with pedale, recit, and grand
orgue divisions.
