Fellowship
Many opportunities are available
at Good Shepherd for adults, children, and families to meet others,
interact, and build long-lasting relationships. Every week, one of our
several organized supper clubs is meeting for an informal dinner
at a member's home. Other events like those below are scheduled
annually.
Shrove Tuesday Pancake
Supper -
Members of EYC, our youth group, serve
pancakes as a fundraiser at this very popular event. An
impromptu 'band' has been known to appear for everyone's enjoyment.
Wednesday Night Lenten
Programs -
The Church of the Good Shepherd's traditional
Wednesday Evening Programs takes place each Wednesday evening in the
Dining Room during Lent. Programs have ranged from discussion of moral
implications of major events to concerts.
Kanuga Weekend - The
parish Spring retreat weekend is a wonderful time for all parishioners -
families, singles, young, young-at-heart - to gather and grow as individuals
and as a parish. This event includes a keynote speaker, worship
services, special workshops, and free time for strengthening relationships. The Kanuga Camp and Conference Center offers a
delightful location in the NC mountains for this parish event.
Eggstravaganza
- The annual Easter gathering takes
place on the Saturday before Easter. Over 300 folks of all ages
attended the most recent event which included a traditional Easter Egg Hunt
plus a fried chicken / barbeque dinner, games, a hay ride, and lots of time
for catching up with friends.
The Mother / Daughter
Tea -
Moms and daughters gather each April as the
Episcopal Churchwomen (ECW) sponsor a Tea and provide an opportunity for the
young ladies of the parish to dress up in their finery.
Pig Pickin' - The
parish Pig Pickin' is held annually in April at the State Fairgrounds. Members look forward to this event which always has a
large attendance.
Church Picnic
- The Annual
Church Picnic takes place in August at Tara Farm, the home of the Watson
Pughs. It is always a great evening of fellowship as members share a
meal of hot dogs and hamburgers and plenty of member-provided side
dishes.
Oyster & Shrimp Roast
- The Oyster & Shrimp Roast takes
place in November at the State Fairgrounds. For those who don't enjoy
seafood, there is plenty of chili to go around.
Christmas Pageant - Our
children present a Christmas Pageant each December to the delight of the
parish. With a range in ages from three-year-olds as sheep all the way up
to high school age narrators, the young people give a unique perspective on
the wonders of the birth of Jesus. A potluck dinner filled with food and
Christmas carols follows the performance. |
