Evensong in May

You are invited to come participate in our next service of Evensong 5pm in the Church on Sunday, May 23rd. The beauty of this service -- which begins with a dimmed, quiet, and reflective sanctuary that gradually becomes infused with the soft light of candle after candle flaring to life -- makes for a very special worship experience. This service is also a wonderful opportunity to get settled and centered as you get ready for another week--it is what is often spoken of as "contemplative" experience of worship. Dress is casual. Then...join us for a wine and cheese reception in the Duncan-Giersch Center following the service.

Evensong--5:00PM, 2nd & 4th Sundays each month

EYC Action in May

From Wren Blessing, Dir. of Youth Ministries
831-2014

* We will undertake several fundraising efforts to offset the cost of our summer/fall trips.  We'll begin by selling  Locopops on Sundays after church (during 'Lemonade on the lawn'), starting on Pentecost (May 23rd).  We make $1 profit off of each popsicle that we sell.  Let me know if you'd like to volunteer to sell popsicles one Sunday after church.

*  On May 23rd after the 10.30 service, youth are invited to a reception in Shepherd's Hall honoring our seniors.  We will meet later that afternoon to attend Evensong and grab a treat together.

* Don't forget to RSVP for "An Evening with Rev. Joseph Taban Lasuba," which EYC is hosting on May 30th.  Father Joseph is a dynamic Sudanese man full of faith and passion for God.  Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to hear Fr. Joseph share about his own life and the life of his Church in a setting quite different from ours.

*  HS students will begin a book discussion group on Thursday, May 27th at 5pm.  We will meet at a local coffee shop to read and discuss Henri Nouwen's Compassion.  (We'll be finished by 6.15) .  Let me know if you're interested in joining, and I'll get you a copy of the book.

It's Not Too Late to Particpate in the UTO Ingathering

It's not too late to particpate in the Spring Ingathering of the United Thank Offering. We are able to accept donations through May 23rd!

If you collected coins in a blue UTO box, we ask that you simply write a check for the amount collected and drop in the offering plate on Sunday morning or drop it by the church office during the work week.

The United Thank Offering is a practice in our life in Christ that begins with daily prayers and gifts of thanksgiving. These gifts of thanksgiving--coins and bills in the UTO box--from each individual are combined with others at the parish and diocesan celebrations and finally within all of the Episcopal Church. Each year the gifts are given as grants for projects throughout the Anglican Communion. These grants continue to support and strengthen the mission and ministry of the Church throughout the world.

2009-2010 Sunday School Teachers Are Loved and Appreciated!!!

Special thanks and recognition was given to the 2009-2010 Sunday school teaching staff on May 16, 2010, during the 10:30am service. Teachers were called forward and generously thanked for their hard work and dedication. Teachers were applauded for helping to create fatih in children which is "a rock from which they can push off" into their adult lives. Further comments were, What you see before you today are a lot of rock builders. These are, in fact, very, very fine masons who chisel one spiritual block after another, one week after the next...Masonry work in arduous and slow, because great precision is required. Each chisel must be calculated.

We thanked our fine "masons" for their planning, implementation, and commitment and the love which they share with our children. They are an outstanding team, and we are proud of them.

This year's teaching staff includes: Michelle Brown, Emily Howard, Shannon Marbrey, Karen Sommerville, Nan Boyne, Kathy MacLeod, Tina Parker, Carolyn Wilson, Vive Kershaw, Robin Nixon, Elaine Perry, Patricia Holdaway, Jane Morrison, Elizabeth Sanders, Jeff and Marsha East, Nancy Peters, Betsy Pittman, Leslie Facello, Jennifer Hague, Natalie Valchar, Anna Howard, Jeff Whittaker, Kevin and Karen Light, Steve Lowe, Jack Boyne, and David Cawthorn.

A Teacher Appreciation Luncheon followed in Shepherd's Hall.
