UTO Offering Envelopes are available in the Narthex and in the main lobby of the Duncan-Giersch Center. For more information contact Meriwether Walker, UTO Coordinator.

Amazing Grace Supper Club, June 7th

Join us for the Amazing Grace Supper Club meeting at 6:00pm on Sunday, June 7, 2009, at the home of Fran and Paul Hoch. Please bring a side dish to share and be sure to RSVP to the Hochs!

Hot Fun in the Summertime Continues June 7

Be sure to join us Sunday morning for Hot Fun in the Summertime after the 10:00am worship service in front of the Duncan-Giersch Center. The theme of today's craft project is "God made the beach!"  This craft is going to be a lot of fun, so come join in.  Remember that each week during most of the summer months, there will be a new craft designed to be completed in about five minutes, or just about the amount of time it takes for parents to enjoy a nice, cold glass of sweet tea!  Please come and enjoy!

Next Hot Fun in the Summertime Set for June 7

Hot Fun!Hot Fun!It was wonderful to see all of the Sunday school aged children who participated in our Hot Fun in the Summertime program on May 24.  We won't meet on Sunday, May 31, but be sure to join us again on Sunday, June 7, after the 10:00am worship service. Each week during most of the summer months, Sunday school age children may come to a work table in front of the parish life center where various craft supplies have been provided, and who knows what projects may be planned to entertain young folks in the coming weeks? Each week's activity is designed to be completed in about five minutes, or just about the amount of time it takes for parents to enjoy a nice, cold glass of sweet tea!  Please come and enjoy!

Urgent Need for Medical Professionals!

Urban Ministries' Open Door Clinic is in dire need of volunteers to serve Wake County's growing population of unemployed and uninsured. The Church of the Good Shepherd has supported Urban Ministries since its inception. In the past several years, the Outreach Committee has especially focused our support on the healthcare arm of the organization, which we feel is an invaluable asset to our community. If you are a healthcare professional, please consider giving a few hours of your time to this worthy cause. Also, please share this request with your family, friends and neighbors who live and work in Wake County.  See details below.

Dear Friends of Urban Ministries:  Urban Ministries or Wake County is seeking medical professionals to volunteer in its Open Door Clinic. If you are a physician, nurse, lab technician, or pharmacist and are interested in serving the poor and uninsured in Wake County, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at (919) 256-2169 or email for more information. Good Shepherd's First E-Newsletter!

The first E-Shepherd's Staff was sent last Thursday, May 21, 2009!  Thank you for your enthusiastic responses.  When you receive your e-newsletter, be sure to enable images to get the complete visual effect. Remember, all the information contained in The E-Shepherd's Staff is accessible on this web site. It is our hope that using email combined with the website will not only provide parishioners with more timely information about Church events and activities, but provide a cost savings in terms of printing, paper and postage.

If you think we have your email address and you didn't receive The E-Shepherd's Staff, you should check your spam or junk email folder for it and be sure to approve or whitelist elizabeth.dawkins@cgs-raleigh.org as the sender. If you don't find the first enewsletter in your spam or junk mail, then we probably don't have your email address. You can supply your address and subscribe to any of our email lists here.

Even if you do not have access to email, never fear! There will still be a monthly printed communication for you.  To receive this publication please contact the church office to let us know (831-2012 or 831-2018). Plus, the weekly service bulletins will continue in their current form, and they are always full of timely information.

Thanks for Participating in the UTO Spring Ingathering

Thank you to everyone who participated in our United Thank Offering Spring Ingathering on Sunday, May 24th.  For those who were unable to be with us and would still like to participate, we are still able to receive contributions through June 14.  UTO grants support projects in the Anglican Community both around the corner and around the globe.  UTO Coordinator: Meriwether Walker.

Greeters Group Forming

The Membership Committee is forming a Greeters Group for the Summer Services. We hope such a group, working in teams, can offer a simply but needed addition to the Sunday worship and fellowship experience. The duties are to welcome worshipers and offer directions to newcomers if needed. There will be a brief organizational and orientation brunch for those who are interested in participating on Sunday, May 31, following the 10:00am service, hosted by the Membership Committee. If you are at least 18 years of age and would like to join this new ministry group, please contact Fyl Thompson at 831-2012 or email her at to make a reservation for the brunch. If you are interested and can't attend the brunch, contact me, Van Giersch, and I will provide you with the necessary information and schedules.

Good News at CGS...

Congratulations to James Chavasse who won two gold medals at the Wake County Senior Games earlier this month.  James, 89, won the singles competition and doubles in the 80-85 age group with his partner Dr. Glenn Bittler.  What wonderful news!

Evening Events and Meetings--

The Duncan-Giersch Center, our parish life center, has been an incredible blessing to the Church Good Shepherd allowing us to provide space to learn, pray, work and grow together through all of the meetings and events that take place in it.  We want to remind those attending events or meetings in the building after 5:00pm during the work week or on the weekends that they may park in either the circular drive on the Hillsborough Street side of the building or in the parking lot behind the church on the corner of Morgan and McDowell Streets.  You can enter the building through the front doors located on Hillsborough Street or through the connector door that is at the top of the stairs adjacent to the rear parking lot.  Additional evening and weekend parking is available in the city parking deck located on the opposite corner of Morgan and McDowell Streets.
